Home » ‘This is Our Selma Moment’: Racial Justice Activists Hope Derek Chauvin Verdict Spurs Larger Systemic Change

Chauvin conviction | Domingo Garcia Law Firm

Accountability is important; it is part of the foundation of our country and really every relationship we all have with one another. Attorney Domingo Garcia became an attorney to be able to protect the rights of people not only on the streets, but also in the courts. The bedrock of being an attorney is bringing justice to those who have been wronged and hoping, by doing so, we make sure that others do not act in the same way.

Domingo Garcia, national president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, said he hopes the victory inspires Congress and state legislatures to enact uniform police training and procedures and to eliminate institutional racism.

“George Floyd’s screams were really screams for police reform, so I hope this sends a strong message that it’s time,” Garcia said. “Hopefully every police officer in America knows that you’re just one video away from ending up like this.”
