Driver Was Seen Weaving In and Out of Traffic

At 12:02 A.M., Officers from the Pebble Hills Regional Command Center responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck. The driver, 27-year old Juan Casas Sandoval, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and died later in the morning.
Investigators from the Special Traffic Investigations Unit responded to assist with the investigation. Investigators found that Casas had been weaving in and out of traffic on I-10 West. He had just entered Gateway West when the crash took place. It appears that Casas may have attempted to reenter I-10 West and struck the cement barrier separating I-10 West and Gateway West.
Casas was not wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol use is suspected. This crash becomes the 55th traffic death of 2021 as compared to 61 at this time last year.
