In this unfortunate accident one person was left dead, and several others were seriously injured. The driver whose fault the accident was could have been drunk at the time of the car accident. Two backseat passengers in the HRV were transported to the hospital with very serious injuries. One of them, a 37-year-old male, was later pronounced deceased by medical staff. The driver of the HRV suffered minor injuries. Investigators learned he was providing rideshare service to the backseat passengers at the time.

The driver of the Sonata, 50-year-old Bernida Collins, was also transported to the hospital. Based on evidence gathered at the scene and their interactions with her, investigators believe she was intoxicated. Officers obtained a search warrant for her blood and a blood draw was completed. She will be charged with one count of Intoxication Manslaughter and one count of Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury.
