WFAA ABC 8: Domingo Responds to Gov. Abbott’s $250M for Texas border wall

With all of the problems raging in Texas at the moment, our Governor is deciding to focus on the one issue that he can have absolutely no impact on; immigration reform. Instead of focusing on the power issues facing all Texans, namely power grid failures that resulted in possibly 700 deaths is what the focus of Texas should be on, not how to intimidate and harass a persecuted population.

This move by the Governor is simply just a distraction. Under Federal Law immigration and enforcing immigration law, is a Federal job. The State of Texas cannot punish undocumented immigrants for committing an immigration violation. The 250 million dollars allocated for this project is a complete misuse of tax-payer funds.

LULAC national president Domingo Garcia doesn’t deny there’s an issue at border but says a wall isn’t an answer.

“It was kind of theater of the political absurd. Governor Abbott knows he has no authority legally or morally to build a wall on the border,” Garcia said. “Most of the children who are coming across at the border are turning themselves in at the bridge, asking for asylum and asking for a court date. No wall is going to stop them.”
